Lerato. “A place of love, joy and peace for our children”

Lerato. “A place of love, joy and peace for our children”.

Article by Kirstin Kwan

The familiar warm welcome and embraces from Sr. Mary and Sr. Helen, the smiles that light up the children’s faces, the singing, the love that radiates from the teachers… these are the little reminders that God’s love is always present.

When I look around into the eyes of the children as they smile and wave for the camera, the first thought that pops into my mind is: “There’s Christ”. The sheer joy and happiness that their little faces speak of is a sure reminder of how we should live our lives as Christians…with childlike faith; placing our trust in Him, for then we shall not worry what tomorrow will bring but will rather spend time fully experiencing the joy in our lives. When speaking about being part of such an amazing project and how it is that they have come this far, Sr. Mary says “we can only do our best. God will provide.” And provided He has!

LCC Parish adopted Lerato Education Centre, together with 450 little ones, as our Parish’s Outreach Project back in 2011. Since then, Lerato has found a home in the hearts of our Parish families with numerous generous donations being warmly received. The “handymen” of our Parish and Outreach Ministry have gotten their hands dirty, spending Saturdays out at Lerato helping with repair jobs here and there. In the past month, the team completed a much-needed Laundry Room fully equipped with a washing machine for which Lerato is very grateful for! Recently, thanks to one of LCC’s Parish Outreach Committee members, Lerato was the recipient of 702’s Random Act of Kindness feature. Through 702 and the Dischem Foundation dreams are now a reality! Check out the YouTube link at the end of this article.

Lerato’s WISHLIST include:

  • Painting classrooms
  • Erecting prefab classrooms to replace the containers currently being used
  • Handyman jobs like fixing doors, etc.
  • Building a fully equipped library (complete with computers)
  • A bakkie or a delivery service to help pick up and deliver groceries to Lerato.
  • Non-perishable food items

We are appealing to the members of our Parish to get involved! If you’re able to make donations to fulfil any of the above items on the wishlist, would like to get your hands dirty or would like to visit Lerato Education Centre, please contact one of the Outreach Committee members or Eugene Kwan.

Thank you to each of you who have supported Lerato and the LCC Outreach Committee in any way!

You have made a difference in the lives of many.
